Simple Methods
Printing a Photo onto a Tea Towel
Getting a tea towel printed with your photo on it could not be simpler.
Step 1: Upload your image
Head over to the Create page on the Prinfab® website.
Once you’re there, click the ‘Choose File’ button to upload your image for an instant preview.
Be sure to select the Tea Towel Cotton 220gsm for the material and Tea Towel 70 x 50cm for the size.
Step 2: Size your image
Once your image has upload, you’ll see an instant preview of your photo.
You can use the ‘Repeat’ and ‘Scale’ dropdown boxes to position and resize your image.
With a single photograph, a good idea is to use the ‘Center’ repeat option and ‘Cover’ scale option. You should end up with something like this:
Step 3: Order your print
Now, you are ready to add your custom printed photo tea towel to your basket.
Prinfab® will give you an estimated despatch and delivery time for your order, so you can know when to expect it by at the latest.
Printing your Artwork onto a Tea Towel
Printing your own custom artwork on a tea towel could not be simpler.
Step 1: Prepare your artwork
I’ll be using this Catbus painting from My Neighbour Totoro as an example.
We have a great guide on preparing your physical artwork for digital print here.
A good scan of your artwork works best, and a little touching up afterwards in image editing software will work wonders for the final print.
In a pinch, photographing your artwork will work, but takes a lot of care in terms of lighting and editing to produce good results.
Step 2: Upload your image
Upload your scanned and prepared artwork to the Create page on the Prinfab® website.
Step 3: Size your image
Use the ‘Scale’ and ‘Repeat’ options to size and place your image on the print.
Step 4: Order your print
Now, you are ready to add your custom printed artwork tea towel to your basket.
Prinfab® will give you an estimated despatch and delivery time for your order, so you can know when to expect it by at the latest.
Finishing your Tea Towel
When your custom printed tea towel arrives, it should look something like this:
Your print will have a small blank border with some order information printed at the top.
Cutting out your custom printed tea towel
First, you’ll need to cut out your tea towel.
We recommend cutting right to the edge of your design, so that there won’t be any blank bits showing when it comes to the sewing.
Hemming the edges of your printed tea towel
The last step is to hem the edges of your tea towel.
You have a few different options when it comes to hemming the edges of your custom printed tea towel, however, the simplest and easiest is probably a double hem with box corners.
Fold and iron the short edges of your tea towel twice, about 1cm from the edge of the towel.
You’ll need to insert your hanging loop and labels along the inner fold.
Sew along the innermost edge, and repeat for the long edges. You should have some perfect looking box corners.
You can get fancy and try mitred corners, or a different style of hanging loop, it’s up to you at this point!
Advanced Method
Step 1: Creating your document in Photopea
To start with, you’ll need to open a new document in Photoshop or Photopea.
You’ll want to size your document to the size of tea towel you want to create. Our tea towel fabric is sized to 70 x 50cm, so that is a good place to start.
You will also want your document to be set up at a good resolution. We recommend 180DPI for most purposes.
If you want to skip the work, you can open this perfectly sized document in Photopea instead.
Step 2: Placing your artwork
Now, you can drag and drop your artwork into this document to completely customize your layout and positioning.
Start by dragging your artwork onto the canvas:
Now you can scale and position your piece on your tea towel:
Now you can add anything else you like:
You can use this method to create complex designs, as well as print multiple images onto one tea towel.
Here is my end result:
Step 3: Saving your artwork
Now you will need to save your tea towel artwork for digital printing from Photopea.
We recommend saving as a high quality jpeg. In Photopea, 80-90% is great, or in Photoshop quality 8-10.
Step 4: Upload your image
Upload your scanned and prepared artwork to the Create page on the Prinfab® website.
Step 5: Order your print
Now, you are ready to add your custom printed artwork tea towel to your basket.
Prinfab® will give you an estimated despatch and delivery time for your order, so you can know when to expect it by at the latest.
